We parked the car along the side of the road. Half a mile across the desert I saw the dark red rocks rising up from the horizon. I saw our location. We headed that way passing the empty cases of beer, old camp fires, and used condoms that litter the sandy abyss outside of Las Vegas. We weren’t in red rocks, or a park or anywhere secluded this time. All we had for time to shoot was the gaps between cars on the motorway, and the hope that nobody was looking out their side windows.
I’d been working with Gerra for a couple of years when I got the idea to do the book shooting in 50 states, and I knew from the get go that I needed to shoot her for the state of Nevada.
